MIGRANT 

REMITTANCES 

2017-2021

A transnational research collaboration with migrant worker organizations in Hong Kong, the Philippines and Indonesia, led by Professor Denise Spitzer (PI, University of Alberta). This project follows the 'life trajectory' of remittances generated by migrant workers from their inception, accumulation, and disbursement within transnational social fields across borders.

This project is supported by an Insight Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

In this transnational participatory action research project, migrant worker organizations play a central role in shaping the research process, which includes surveys, focus groups and visual ethnographic case studies. In Hong Kong, domestic workers were trained to administer surveys and collect data.

INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE BETWEEN INDONESIAN MIGRANT LEADERS AND LEGISLATIVE CANDIDATES FOR 2019 INDONESIAN ELECTION

Indonesian domestic worker-led organizations organized a dialogue with Indonesian legislative candidates to strengthen migrant workers' political participation and raise issues including migrant workers' contribution to national economies.
